What happens to a wooly worm?

my granddaughter catches these little wonders &what i found OMG!they spin a web and then they fall asleep,inside of this web,and kinda get very hairy,they are amazing,i do believe that they turn into a colorful erfly in the spring after they have cocooned all winter i do hope this has helped you.Peace Love & Happiness to all
