Why do some people have migranes and others never?

In my family it's hereditary. My grandmother woke up every single morning with a headache and had some prescription pill she had to take as soon as she woke before she even got out of bed. My mother suffered migraines, my brother and I both suffer migraines, and both my children suffer migraines.
